Snook Fishing Suberb in Passes for Capt. Ames
Capt. Stewart Ames of Steady Action Fishing Charters said snook, as well as trout, are hot in the passes, but slot-sized redfish have disappeared

Capt. Stewart Ames of Gone Fishing Charters said snook fishing has been extremely good in the passes of northern Pinellas County, with the average fish running 28-30 inches in length. “The typical day might be 4-5 fish landed, but we hooked 40 fish last week on a four-hour trip. I’m talking 26-35-inch fish.”
Ames said he has been free-lining white bait in the passes.
The same, simple technique has been working off the beaches and in the passes for trout, he said. The trout Ames has been catching have been 14-o-20 inch fish. “Those are just the bycatch of snook fishing for me,” he said.

Unfortunately, Ames said there has been an absence of slot redfish. “It’s been that way all summer,” he said. “Now clue why. We just had rats reds running all over the place this spring.”
He said tarpon are still off the beaches in decent numbers, but not like at the Skyway or Egmont Key.
