Sock Hop at Deer Park Focuses on Moms and Sons

The Mother Son Be Bop Sock Hop happens today, Friday March 30 at 5:30pm.

 

Attention "Daddy-Daughter" dances everywhere, the moms and sons of are getting their chance to shine tonight.

The school is hosting their first ever "Mother Son Be Bop Sock Hop" today, Friday, March 30 at 5:30pm. This free event is only open to Deer Park students. Boys are welcomed to bring in their mothers, and mother figures including grandmothers, aunts and caregivers.

School officials said they were inspired by the popularity of Deer Park's annual daddy-daughter dance.

"We wanted to offer families with boys an equal opportunity to celebrate, but in a different way," said Lisa Held, a secretary at Deer Park Elementary. "This is not just a boys version of the daddy daughter dance."

The event will feature classic cars provided by Truly Nolen Pest and Termite Control. The company is providing a few of their classic cars after a company that was supposed to provide the cars backed out.

"Truly Nolen really saved the day," said Caroline Goodrich, a Deer Park PTSA member.

The event will include Wicked Witches food truck, a DJ, Elvis Presley impersonator, games and contests. A hoola hoop contest is also promised in Friday night's fun.

"We really are trying to create a sock hop atmosphere," Goodrich said.
