VALDOSTA, GA — A worker at a Georgia travel center is facing murder charges after being accused of shooting four of his coworkers, killing one of them, Sunday in Lowndes County.
Deputies responded to reports of an active shooting in the 3600 block of Madison Highway in Valdosta, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
When they arrived, they found four people suffering from gunshot wounds, authorities said.
They identified the accused shooter as Jabari Nelms, of Valdosta. He was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.
Three of the people who were shot received treatment at South Georgia Medical Center; however, Damani Bentley, of Valdosta, died of his injuries, authorities said.
They noted Bentley and the three people who were injured were working at the travel center at the time of the shooting.
Nelms was arrested on charges of murder, Lowndes County Jail records showed Monday. Authorities said he faces multiple charges.
A motive in the shooting was not revealed.
