FORT STEWART, GA — A shooting at Fort Stewart prompted a lockdown of the Army base Monday afternoon, officials said.
Shots were fired around 2:15 p.m. near Engineer Road at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield, which is about 40 miles southwest of Savannah.
Army officials say they had a suspect in custody within minutes of the shooting. No one was injured.
The brief lockdown lasted for 12 minutes and was lifted once the threat was cleared around 2:30 p.m., officials said.
'The safety and security of our service members, civilian employees and their families remain our top priority," officials said in an update.
They did not identify the suspect or say what led to the shooting.
