More than 4.3 million tubes of toothpaste — many of which are marketed for children — were recently recalled, according to federal authorities.
The toothpaste, which was distributed nationwide, includes tubes with Brush Buddies, evo and ARU branding, authorities said.
The voluntary recall was initiated in September but was not assigned a classification until mid-October, when it was designated a Class II recall, meaning the toothpaste may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health outcomes, but the probability of serious consequences is remote, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
The listed reason for the recall is Current Good Manufacturing Practice deviations, authorities said. Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations include minimum requirements for methods, facilities and controls in manufacturing, processing and packing a drug product to ensure it is safe and has the ingredients and strength it claims to have, according to the FDA.
The toothpaste was recalled by Pritam International Private Ltd., which is based in Haridwar, India, and it was distributed by Ashtel Studios Inc. of Ontario, California, authorities said.
The recall includes the following Brush Buddies anticavity fluoride toothpastes:
Also included in the recall are evo advanced whitening in peppermint, evo sensitive in sweet mint, ARU gum health in soothing mint and ARU cavity protection in cool mint.
