1. 2026 SWGA Career Expo at Albany Civic Center Thursday (southgatv.com) — Albany job seekers and employers can connect at the SWGA Career Expo this Thursday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center. The Albany-Dougherty EDC and Albany Area Chamber are also launching SWGAjobs.com, a year-round platform for posting openings, building resumes, and applying for jobs across Southwest Georgia.
2. ASU Hosts President's Speaking Series with Dr. Joseph W. Walker, III (southgatv.com) — Albany residents are invited to Albany State University's President's Speaking Series this Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Billy C. Black Building on East Campus. National faith and leadership figure Dr. Joseph W. Walker, III will speak on wellness, resilience, and research-driven leadership; admission is free, but registration and seating are limited.
3. 'Just not a good thing for us': East Albany residents push back on proposed truck stop rezoning (walb.com) — East Albany neighbors are organizing against a proposed truck stop and maintenance shop off Don Cutler Sr. Drive, saying it would endanger children, increase crime, and clog neighborhood streets. City commissioners have delayed a final vote until Oct. 6 while developers revise their site plan, and residents plan to pack that meeting to urge rejection.
4. 3 teens arrested for reportedly trying to break into car in Albany; 1 teen shot during incident (walb.com) — Three teens are facing charges after an early-morning attempted car break-in at a home on Cedar Avenue in southwest Albany, where the victim reported masked men at their vehicle. Police later found one teen shot near Lee Street and Corn Avenue and arrested two others on entering-auto charges. The investigation continues, and more charges are expected once the injured teen leaves the hospital.
5. One hospitalized after early morning shooting in Albany (walb.com) — An overnight shooting on Cody Court in Albany left a 50-year-old woman hospitalized in stable condition at Phoebe Putney Memorial, according to police. Multiple people were inside the home when shots were fired, and a nearby house was also struck, though no one else was hurt. Albany Police are still investigating and asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
