City Council OKs Redeveloping North Point Mall In Alpharetta: Reports

The opening of the North Point Sports and Entertainment District would be metro Atlanta's third push to draw the NHL, a media report says.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Council members recently advanced the redevelopment of North Point Mall, green-lighting a new hockey arena and entertainment district.

With a 4-3 vote, the Alpharetta City Council on Monday approved transforming North Point into a mixed-use development set to feature a 20,000-seat hockey arena that could attract the National Hockey League, WXIA-TV reported Tuesday.

The opening of the North Point Sports and Entertainment District would be metro Atlanta's third push to draw the NHL, the news outlet reported.

The last time Georgia had a NHL team was in 2011, marking the end of the Atlanta Thrashers.

Plans to reshape North Point began in March when property owner New York Life linked with developer Jamestown to file a rezoning application, Urbanize Atlanta previously reported.
