ALPHARETTA, GA — Construction is underway on a new skate park in Alpharetta, a project the city says grew out of requests from local skaters for a dedicated place to ride.
The attraction is part of a $3.52 million renovation at Union Hill Park and is expected to open in May 2027, according to the Alpharetta Recreation, Parks and Cultural Services Department.
The work is funded by the 2021 parks bond, the department said Tuesday.
The new skate park will give local riders a more permanent space to practice skills and use ramps at Union Hill, the city said.
The project traces back to community feedback gathered in 2020, when local skaters asked the city for a dedicated place to ride.
The work includes changes to the current skate area. The existing skate park will be repurposed as part of the broader renovation and will remain closed during construction.
It was not revealed what the existing skate park will become after it is repurposed.
