Clarke County School District middle school principals Dwight Manzy and Melanie Sigler have both been named finalists for Georgia Principal of the Year. Three statewide finalists at each the middle and high school levels were recently named by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals.

“I want to commend both Mr. Manzy and Ms. Sigler for this well-deserved honor, as the work they are doing at Coile and Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School models our belief in all students,” said Superintendent Philip D. Lanoue. “They have closed the achievement gap, formed strong bonds with their school communities and have been exemplary instructional leaders. They have made a true difference in the lives of many students here in Clarke County.”

The criteria for selection includes professional and school excellence, as well as evidence of exemplary work in collaboration, curriculum, instruction and assessment, and personalization of the school’s work to meet individual student needs. Each of the finalists will participate in an interview process, leading to the announcement of Georgia’s Principals of the Year in late-February.
