• Memorial Park pond closed for renovations (wuga.org) — Most of Memorial Park in Athens' Five Points neighborhood is temporarily closed as SPLOST 2020-funded renovations reshape the ponds and other facilities, so residents will need to choose other outdoor spots for now. You can track construction progress and even see photos of relocated turtles through Athens-Clarke County's online project overview and Leisure Services Facebook page.
• Police investigate alleged sexual assault near Athens City Hall (nowgeorgia.com) — Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a reported sexual assault that may have occurred overnight near City Hall in downtown Athens, after a person sought care at a local hospital. Detectives say there's no immediate threat to the public but are asking anyone with information to contact ACCPD Detective Giselle Elmore as the investigation continues.
• Huge solar farms in the works; Tag office employee arrested; Data center moratorium extended (wgtjradio.com) — An Athens-Clarke County tag office employee has been arrested and is under investigation on multiple fraud‑related charges tied to her work, and she's already been fired. The statewide roundup also mentions massive proposed solar farms in South Georgia and a data‑center moratorium in Cherokee County, but the tag office case is the most immediate concern for Athens residents.
