• September Family Events at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia (macaronikid.com) — Families in Athens can look forward to two bug-themed events at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia on South Milledge Avenue this September. A free outdoor screening of "The Extraordinary Caterpillar" happens Friday, Sept. 25, followed by the 36th Annual Insectival festival on Sunday, Sept. 27. Both events are cashless, with registration required for movie night and low-cost tickets for Insectival.
• Uber driver arrested on Arkansas warrants (onlineathens.com) — An Athens man reportedly lost $30,000 in a fake PayPal scam, according to an Oconee County Sheriff's Office report, offering a sharp reminder to local residents about online fraud risks. The same report details several recent incidents around Oconee County, including shoplifting at Walmart, suspected drug use at a QuikTrip, and an Uber driver arrested on Arkansas warrants.
• Athens artist explores faith in the age of smartphones (onlineathens.com) — An Athens-based artist, Ethan Snow, is inviting locals to explore how our smartphone habits resemble modern rituals in his exhibition "New Faith" at Foyer, 135 Park Ave, on view by appointment through Oct. 11. Using glowing plexiglass and ceramic sculptures that blend human bones with machine-like forms, Snow asks viewers to reflect on their daily devotion to technology and emerging AI.
