1. New ACCGov CIO and IT Department director appointed (wuga.org) — Athens-Clarke County has named Hemant Desai as its new chief information officer and IT Department director, with his tenure beginning September 26. Bringing more than 20 years of technology leadership experience, he will oversee the county's technology strategy and systems that support everyday services for Athens residents.
   

2. UGA hosting stair climb in Sanford Stadium to commemorate 25th anniversary of 9/11 (wuga.org) — UGA is hosting a 9/11 memorial stair climb early Friday morning at Sanford Stadium, and Athens-Clarke County firefighters, police, and ROTC cadets are again expected to participate. Locals can enter through Gate 2 before the 6 a.m. start to join or watch participants climb the equivalent of the World Trade Center's 110 stories in honor of fallen first responders.
   

3. Irina Rozovsky's Balkan Wandering — Blind Magazine (blind-magazine.com) — Photographer Irina Rozovsky, who lives and works in Athens and co-directs the local photography space The Humid, has released a new book, Mountain Black Heart. The work weaves unsettling and tender images from across the Balkans, exploring memory, conflict, and everyday grace while reflecting the sensibility she brings back to Athens' creative community.
   

4. Killer Kross, Scarlett, Gail Kim And More Backstage At AEW Dynamite (pwmania.com) — AEW's special Rebel Heart Dynamite taping in Athens brought major wrestling names backstage to support Tanea "Rebel" Brooks as she faces terminal ALS. The show at Sanford's hometown arena focused on honoring Brooks and raising awareness of ALS, drawing friends, colleagues, and fans together for a heartfelt tribute in Athens.
   

5. Arkansas Diamonds among four teams added in Indoor Football League expansion (kark.com) — Athens is slated to host a new Indoor Football League franchise, joining Savannah, Texas, and the Arkansas Diamonds as part of a four-team expansion. The move follows Arkansas's successful run in The Arena League and signals growing interest in professional indoor football across Georgia, giving local fans in Athens a new team to follow soon.
