1. Athens summit aims to boost early prostate cancer detection (onlineathens.com) — Men in Athens can get free prostate cancer education and talk directly with local doctors and survivors at Saturday's Prostate Cancer Awareness Summit off Old Jefferson Road. A PSA testing event and football tailgate follow at noon, offering on-site screening and support aimed at encouraging early detection and connecting residents with local health resources.
   

2. ACCPD Blotter: Drunk driver crashes into light pole, woman breaks roommate's doorknob and more (redandblack.com) — Athens-Clarke County Police recently handled a late-night DUI crash at East Dougherty and North Jackson streets, where a driver allegedly admitted being drunk before refusing sobriety tests. Officers also arrested a woman after a dispute over a locked-in cat escalated into threats and property damage, and investigated an abandoned car that damaged a Spring Valley Road fence.
   

3. ACCPD investigates ninth fatal crash in Athens (wuga.org) — Athens-Clarke County police are investigating the community's ninth fatal crash of 2026, which claimed the life of a 78-year-old Athens woman after a collision on Jefferson Road at Lakeland Drive. Residents who witnessed the incident are urged to contact Senior Police Officer Lauren Barnard as the department works to understand what happened and improve local road safety.
   

4. Athletic and academic showing for Georgia gives AD Josh Brooks maximum bonuses (onlineathens.com) — UGA athletic director Josh Brooks has earned the maximum $400,000 in bonuses after Georgia teams posted strong national finishes and record classroom performance, including a 3.28 average athlete GPA. The contract details, obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald, show his total compensation now averages $1.75 million annually under a deal running through 2031.
