What I like most about Athens right now is how people who don't have much to begin with can use what they do have to make a difference.
A great example of this is Athens mom Heather Escoe.
On January 8, she posted the following to her Facebook:
So for the past 2 weeks I have been trying to come up with not a New Years Resolution but rather what is something I can do in this new year that will not only help me but will also help others around me…. I though I can workout and eat better, that
Heather Escoe of Athens, GA
would help me and my family… should do that anyways sooooo next… I can do the 52 week money challenge, that’ll again be a great gift for myself and Wes and the girls…. again, really should do that ANYWAYS (and yes we are doing this) so next….. I could work on not being angry and hurt…. Thanks to my momma making me promise not to yell for a whole week… I see I needed to work on that anyways so… next…. anyways I thought of probably a hundred things I COULD do that I SHOULD already do so next to all of them…..

This morning I am sitting here again thinking of everyone EVERYONE who has helped me in my life… Good Lord there are so many I will never be able to thank them all, let alone pay them all back…. Many have helped me financially, some physically, some emotionally so many ways I have been helped by people who maybe thought I didn’t deserve it however they helped anyways. Some of these people aren’t in my life anymore even for whatever reasons and while they may see this and think this isn’t a ‘good enough’ pay back for them….. it’s all I have to offer and so it is what I will give…
For (at least) the next 365 days of my life EVERYDAY I will pay it forward. I may not be able to do so with cash but I can offer things, time, words and when I DO have it money.

I was so inspired by Heather's mission that I created a blog and Facebook page to tell her daily story. Check it out. It's been fun so far.
