Woman Says She Was Victim of Computer Scammers

"Customer service company" said her computer needed cleaning, but now it's much slower and will cost $199 to fix.

BURGLARY
A Westpark Drive resident reported a storage shed at a South Lumpkin Street location was burglarized between midnight and 11:30 a.m. on August 18. A push mower, weed eater, and blower with a total value of $430 were stolen.

A Laurie Drive residence was burglarized sometime prior to 2:30 p.m. August 18. A TV, stereo, and CDs with a value of $250 were stolen.

A 70-year old victim said she received a call from a male who told her he was with a customer service company in Las Vegas. He told her that her computer had a large number of errors and it needed to be cleaned. This male, along with another male, walked her through the process of giving them access to her computer. She believes they installed some sort of malware/virus on the computer. The victim said she is now having problems with the computer. The males told her she would have to pay $199 before they complete the cleaning. They told her she would receive a letter with information on providing them with her credit card information.
