Today's riddle: What gets wetter & wetter as it dries? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. Erroll Davis, Ex-USG Chancellor, Dies At 81 (patch.com) — Atlanta readers are remembering Erroll B. Davis, the former Atlanta Public Schools superintendent and first African American chancellor of Georgia’s university system, who has died at 81 after battling primary lateral sclerosis. He is praised for steering APS through a difficult period, leading several Atlanta-based foundations and boards, and will be honored at a Saturday funeral at Georgia State University’s Centennial Hall downtown.
2. El Niño Summer Forecast: How Hot And Stormy Will It Be In GA? (patch.com) — Atlanta-area residents should brace for a hotter-than-normal El Niño summer, with forecasters predicting 52 to 62 days reaching at least 90 degrees. Georgia can expect temperatures 2–3 degrees above average, frequent thunderstorms, and some flood risk, especially later in the season, as shifting patterns influence storm tracks across the region.
3. Lawsuits, liens against Birmingham-based Pihakis Restaurant Group cause 'temporary' closures in Atlanta (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Several Atlanta-area diners may find locked doors as Pihakis Restaurant Group faces $13.7 million in lawsuits and liens, prompting temporary closures of Psito and Hero Diner locations in Summerhill and Fayetteville. The company says it hopes to stabilize operations and emerge stronger after a wave of shutdowns across four states.
4. MARTA's new fare system brings some riders frustration (atlantanewsfirst.com) — MARTA is phasing out its old silver and yellow Breeze cards this Saturday as Atlanta’s transit system moves to the new Better Breeze payment setup with tap-to-pay and orange cards. Some riders, especially seniors and reduced-fare users, report confusion and delays getting replacement cards, but MARTA says reduced-fare cards are being mailed and can also be handled at the Five Points Reduced Fare Office.
5. Zoo Atlanta welcomes armadillo pup, first born at the zoo (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Zoo Atlanta has welcomed its first-ever southern three-banded armadillo pup, born March 20 and expected to be visible to visitors later this summer. Staff say the rare birth offers Atlantans a chance to see how these Near Threatened animals grow and differ from the nine-banded armadillos found in Georgia, while supporting conservation-focused education at the Grant Park zoo.
