1. Major Clothing Retailer In GA Closing 150 U.S. Stores (patch.com) — Atlanta shoppers could soon see changes at Carter’s, as the Atlanta-based children’s clothing retailer plans to close 150 U.S. stores while it battles higher costs and tariffs. The company has not said which locations will shut down, but it currently operates several Carter’s and OshKosh stores across metro Atlanta, including on Ashford Dunwoody Road, Piedmont Road, Cobb Parkway and in East Point.
2. Residents in Sandy Springs rally against SR 400 construction impacts (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Sandy Springs neighbors along Ga. 400 are mobilizing after acres of trees were cleared for the state’s $11 billion express lanes project, increasing noise and bringing construction right up to their backyards. GDOT officials told Rough Draft Atlanta the work will run day and night, with new ramps and an intersection reconfiguration coming but no noise walls or tree replacement currently planned, leaving residents pushing for better buffers and communication.
3. DeKalb County schools delay plan to close dozens of schools (fox5atlanta.com) — DeKalb County schools are delaying a sweeping “student assignment” plan that could close or convert more than 20 campuses, after strong pushback from parents across metro Atlanta. Interim Superintendent Norman Sauce says independent facilitators will now review data and feedback over the summer, with final attendance boundary decisions pushed to December and renewed talks on low-enrollment schools expected next spring.
4. OSF to Receive ‘Best' Culture Award (southwestmessengerpress.com) — An out-of-state health system’s OSF OnCall division will receive a “Best Contact Center Culture” award at a national healthcare contact center conference coming to Atlanta in early June. The recognition highlights how the group’s employee-led culture efforts, from engagement councils to community outreach, are improving both staff experience and patient care.
5. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signs major education bills into law (wsav.com) — At the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Gov. Brian Kemp has signed a major package of education bills that will affect classrooms statewide, including metro Atlanta. The laws ban cell phones for K–8 students, overhaul reading instruction through the Georgia Early Literacy Act, and fund roughly 1,300 literacy coaches to boost Georgia’s low early reading scores.
