GA Gas Tax Suspension Set To Expire: Here's When

A weeks-long gas tax suspension is set to expire in Georgia, potentially raising prices at the pumps.

ATLANTA, GA — A temporary gas tax suspension will expire Wednesday unless Gov. Brian Kemp extends the order, which could keep costs down for a little longer in Georgia.

House Bill 1199 initially removed the gas tax through May 19, but Kemp opted to extend the suspension through Wednesday.

The governor, who is in his final term sitting at the helm, has suspended the state gas tax multiple times since first taking office in 2019.

The current excise tax is 33.3 cents per gallon and 37.3 cents per gallon of diesel.

The average price was $3.833 for regular gas and $4.923 for diesel Monday, according to AAA. One month ago during the suspension, gas was priced at $3.802 for regular and $5.034 for diesel.

It is unknown if Kemp prolong the suspension once more.
