Massive Layoffs In GA Take Effect As Job Losses Climb

Hundreds of Georgians recently lost their jobs, along with thousands more across the country, as a major temporary staffing firm restructures.

In Georgia, 687 employees of the Ideal US Talent Systems Worker OpCo LLC were laid off as of Wednesday.

According to the WARN database, the laid-off staffers worked remotely.

Ideal US Talent Systems also reported plans to lay off 1,395 employees in Illinois, 776 in Virginia, 307 in Washington, D.C., and two in Rhode Island. According to U.S. layoff trackers, the total number of affected employees is nearly 10,000.

The company says it is transitioning its customer contracts to a third-party partner and encourages affected employees to apply there.

Georgia's unemployment rate dipped to 3.5 percent in May, according to the latest available data released on June 18. The national unemployment rate is at 4.3 percent.

At a more local level, the trend was slightly lower as the reported a 3.2 percent unemployment rate in May.

The ARC serves Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties.

Amid planned layoffs, Georgia recorded 5,002,400 available jobs in May.
