Strong storms could pour up to 2 inches of heavy rainfall into Georgia, where floodwaters and lightning could hit Tuesday.
Patch spoke with Carmen Hernandez, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.
She said localized flash flooding could arise in areas prone to overflow. At least an inch or two of rain could fall in Georgia.
"Thankfully, we're looking at the threat for winds to be kind of low for the moment," Hernandez said.
However, isolated stronger storms could potentially topple trees and lead to power outages, she said.
The Peach State has been subjected to rounds of heavy rainfall due to a low-pressure system that is currently sitting over Mississippi and Alabama. Hernandez said the system is directing moisture into Georgia.
Southern Paulding County has been hard hit, receiving up to 5 inches in the last day, she said.
Towns southeast of metro Atlanta has experienced 3-4 inches of rainfall in the last 24 hours, and an inch of fall dropped into the metro area inside the I-285 corridor.
Daily thunderstorm chances continue to persist, but Hernandez said the system will push further west in coming days.
Georgia is in the path of the most widespread storms this week in the South, according to an AccuWeather map.
Up to 3 inches of rain could pour into the Southeast from Texas and southern Oklahoma on Tuesday; however, AccuWeather noted this probability could double in areas that receive repeated storms.
Summertime weather could potentially arrive by Thursday in Georgia, Hernandez said.
