The Georgia town came after few Florida cities and No. 1 Scottsdale, Arizona. The list featured 100 U.S. cities.

Experts evaluated several metrics, including veterinary costs, the number of dog-friendly restaurants in a town, home square footage, the amount of dog parks in a town and dog-friendly trails.

"The most pet-friendly cities aren't just those where it's cheapest to own an animal and take care of its health, although cost is definitely a major consideration," WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said in the report. "Many factors contribute to a good environment for pets, from the availability of vets and pet-friendly stores to the prevalence of parks and how walkable each city is."

Atlanta scored an overall 56.85 and ranked in the following categories: pet budget (No. 66), pet health and wellness (No. 6) and outdoor pet-friendliness (No. 36).

The city was also recognized for having the third-most animal shelters per capita.

Here are the top 10 most-pet friendly cities, per WalletHub:

  1. Scottsdale, Arizona
  2. Tampa, Florida
  3. Las Vegas, Nevada
  4. Orlando, Florida
  5. Cincinnati, Ohio
  6. St. Petersburg, Florida
  7. Birmingham, Alabama
  8. Tulsa, Oklahoma
