ATLANTA, GA — Forecasters are monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic Basin as sweeping weekend storms are expected to push through Georgia.
As of Wednesday, there was a low 30 percent chance of development, according to the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.
On Thursday, AccuWeather reported a tropical threat near Bermuda could possibly be this hurricane season's first storm.
"This could be the system that finally produces the first hurricane of the Atlantic season," AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva said in a news release. "If it becomes organized, conditions near Bermuda could support strengthening and potentially allow the system to reach hurricane strength."
As of Thursday, there were no reports of impending tropical impacts to Georgia.
However, lightning-producing storms are on the horizon for the Peach State's central and north regions, the NWS reported. Heavy rainfall, isolated flash flooding and gusty winds could also be factors with the storms.
Rain chances increase, starting Thursday and into early next week, the NWS reported.
Even with the downpour, temperatures will continue to be unseasonably warm.
The September heat is due to a "persistent upper-level ridge and surface high pressure pattern," the NWS reported. Temperatures may live in the upper 80s and 90s.
