Convicted felon facing murder, arson charges after Atlanta apartment fire (fox5atlanta.com) β Atlanta police have secured arrest warrants for a 23-year-old convicted felon accused of murder, aggravated assault, and arson in a deadly Sept. 24 apartment fire on Stanton Road SW. Firefighters found one person dead with burns, and the suspect, who has multiple prior felony charges, is currently held at Fulton County Jail as investigators continue gathering details.

From tutoring to adult education: LaAmistad expands programs across metro Atlanta (wsbtv.com) β Families across metro Atlanta can tap into LaAmistad's expanding network of tutoring, early childhood, and adult education programs designed for Spanish-speaking communities. Starting at Peachtree Presbyterian in northwest Atlanta, the nonprofit now runs more than a dozen campuses, offers transportation, and provides English classes, mental health supports, and college readiness to help parents and students unlock new opportunities.

4. Feds move pretrial detainees hours from Atlanta to facility accused of medical abuse (wabe.org) β Federal pretrial detainees from the Atlanta area are being moved about 190 miles south to Irwin County Detention Center, a facility previously accused of medical abuse, raising alarms for local families and defense attorneys. Atlanta's federal defender program warns the transfers will strain indigent families, drive up legal costs, and complicate court proceedings at the busy downtown courthouse.
