ATLANTA, GA — Video footage showed the moments Atlanta firefighters rescued a construction worker who had fallen 20 feet deep into a sewer access Tuesday.
Atlanta Fire Rescue released the 58-second video on Facebook, saying the rescue happened sometime Tuesday at Roxboro Road Northeast.
The trapped worker was unable to escape the 20-feet-deep, 4-feet-wide city sewer access, the department said.
Crews utilized their confined space rescue, hazardous materials and rope rescue training to bring him to safety, fire officials said.
Equipped with supplied air and a communication line, AFD said firefighters entered the narrow space while rescuers secured the man in a harness.
A tripod and rope system was utilized to lift him to the surface, fire officials said.
It is unknown how and for how long the worker was trapped.
"Atlanta Fire Rescue is an all-hazards department with an ISO Class 1 rating, prepared to respond to emergencies far beyond fires. Behind every rescue is training the public rarely sees, and a coordinated team ready to put it to work when someone needs them most," AFD said in a Facebook post.
