When keepers at Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary recently noticed Golden stopped gnawing on meat with bones, while also favoring one side of his mouth while chewing, the sanctuary's veterinarian completed a preliminary exam revealing inflammation around one of Golden's upper canine teeth, creating an urgent need for corrective tiger treatment estimated at $5,000.

With portable equipment, professionals from veterinary teams at Auburn University and the Peter Emily International Dental Foundation may be able to treat Golden at his home in Noah's Ark, where he feels safe and loved.

"Unfortunately, this was not a case where more flossing would fix the problem," said Lisette George, executive director of Noah's Ark. "A gift of any size will help Golden get the care needed to eat comfortably and pain free."

On a typical day, Bengal tigers like Golden eat more than 15 pounds of meat, which translates to an average monthly estimated expense of $3,150 and a yearly cost of $37,800. While Noah's Ark benefits from generous donors or retailers providing discounted meat prices, the hard costs typically surpass the donations.

"Any financial donations beyond our $5,000 tiger dental work goal will help offset these costs," said George.

Noah's Ark is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sanctuary caring for more than 150 animals who have been abused, neglected or simply had nowhere else to go. Every bit of the sanctuary's important work is made possible through generous donations. Noah's Ark will host several upcoming events including Critter Fun Day Oct. 10 and the second Beary Scary Sanctuary event for Halloween on Oct. 24.
