1. Kemp Extends State Of Emergency, Suspends Dyed Fuel Penalties In GA (patch.com) — Atlanta readers are seeing direct impacts from Gov. Brian Kemp's extended state of emergency, which now runs through Nov. 5 and includes suspending penalties on dyed diesel fuel. The move, paired with the ongoing gas tax pause and waived truck weight limits, is meant to ease fuel and transportation costs for farmers, truckers, and consumers facing higher prices on everyday goods.
2. 2 dead after house fire in Glenrose Heights neighborhood, officials say (fox5atlanta.com) — Two people were killed Wednesday night in a house fire on Watters Road in Atlanta's Glenrose Heights neighborhood, according to Atlanta Fire Rescue. Fire crews remained on scene late into the night gathering details, while officials have not yet released the victims' identities or determined what caused the blaze, which is still under investigation.
3. Atlanta police to begin Beltline e-bike patrols this weekend (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Starting this weekend, Atlanta police will patrol the Beltline on 15 new e-bikes, aiming to boost visibility and cut response times along the busy trail. The Path Force unit's bikes can cover the full Beltline on a single charge, and officials say data on trail use will guide where and when officers ride following recent violent incidents.
4. Atlanta-based architecture firm uses AI to mitigate risk from 'El Niño' storms (wabe.org) — Developers and builders around Atlanta are being urged to prepare now for a potentially very wet El Niño winter that could delay excavation and foundation work on local projects. An Atlanta-based architecture firm is using AI tools to better predict weather-related risks, manage contract "weather days," and help keep metro construction timelines and costs under control despite NOAA's forecast for heavier Southern rainfall.
5. Atlanta Fire Rescue celebrates 1 year of drone program (atlantanewsfirst.com) — Atlanta Fire Rescue's Station 22 drone unit has just marked its first year, responding to more than 880 calls and giving commanders real-time aerial views of fires and emergencies. Equipped with infrared and search-and-rescue features, the drones help locate hotspots and trapped people, and firefighters say the innovative program is poised to grow even more.
