Greyhound, FlixBus riders now board at Augusta Transit hub (theaugustapress.com) — Bus riders in Augusta now board Greyhound and FlixBus at the Augusta Transit Transfer Facility on Broad Street, instead of the old Wheeler Road stop. The move, backed by a new city lease with Flix North America, lets travelers connect more easily between intercity buses and Augusta's nine local routes while keeping long-distance service to cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and New York.
2. Planning Commission recommends approval for proposed adult day care center at former Terrace Manor Elementary (theaugustapress.com) — Augusta's Planning Commission has recommended approval to convert the former Terrace Manor Elementary on Tate Road into an adult day care and after-school program for youths with disabilities. The project would expand services beyond the already full Lizzy's Adult Community Service Center, with supporters saying the large building can safely host both programs using separate wings and staggered hours.
3. $1 million BlackRock grant boosts skilled trades training in Augusta (augustachronicle.com) — A new $1 million BlackRock grant to Goodwill in Augusta will significantly expand Helms College's electrician and HVAC/R training programs for local residents. The funding will upgrade hands-on labs, add instructors, and help students overcome barriers like transportation, boosting annual skilled‑trades enrollment capacity in Augusta from 240 to 640 and better matching local employers' needs.
4. JENNIE: Miracle Mile Walk October 17th– new location! (wjbf.com) — Augusta residents are invited to join the Miracle Mile Walk on October 17, starting 8 a.m. at the Old Train Depot on Reynolds Street, with the walk beginning at 9. The event raises money for Piedmont Augusta's breast health center and mobile mammography unit, helping provide screenings regardless of ability to pay, and locals can also support by fundraising, sponsoring, or donating online.
5. Augusta finalizes data center rules as resident urges tougher oversight, enforcement (wrdw.com) — Augusta commissioners narrowly approved a 29‑page data center ordinance that limits facilities to nonresidential zones, sets strict noise and water‑use rules, and requires buffers and closed‑loop cooling. One resident urged creation of an oversight committee and stronger enforcement tools, warning that protections for neighborhoods, water supplies and decommissioning will matter only if Augusta can verify long‑term compliance.
