AUSTELL, GA — Riders on Six Flags Over Georgia's SkyScreamer became temporarily trapped on the elevated swing set after it briefly stopped more than 200 feet in the air, according to a WSB-TV report published Tuesday.
A video clip shared by Fox News appears to show people dangling at least 200 feet in the air. The footage derived from one of the riders who they identified as David Early, according to the news outlet.
While representatives for the local Six Flags originally told WSB-TV video of the incident was captured in 2025, the news outlet reported they were later told the SkyScreamer stopped for 10 minutes on June 14.
Early told WSB-TV his friend sitting beside him began to get afraid.
“She did start panicking and getting scared and cry," he told the news outlet. "I just started praying to God, Jesus Christ to be exact."
A statement from the amusement park shared by WSB-TV read:
“To clarify, we believe this video was taken in 2025 and was posted only recently. However, I’d like to share some information about the ride and safety stops to help correct some misconceptions. The safety of our guests and team members is a top priority. The ride experienced a technical delay (similar to a check engine light) that paused its operation. Its safety system performed as designed, keeping all guests safe. Following a complete systems check, the ride was returned to its loading position and guests exited the ride.”
The SkyScreamer has a Level 4 thrill level and ascends 227 feet high, according to Six Flags.
In a description of the ride, the amusement park stated:
"If you’re brave enough, go ahead and look down! It’s usually only birds that get this view of the Atlanta skyline. You’ll pick up speed as the star-shaped gondola begins to spin, sending you circling the tower at up to 40 mph; that’s nearly highway speeds ..."
