21st Century, One-Room Schoolhouse to Hold Information Session
Parents are invited to learn about the new school, scheduled to open Aug. 1 in Decatur.

DECATUR (April 18, 2016) β 21st Century STEM Academy, a high-tech version of a one-room schoolhouse will open its doors Aug. 1 on Clairmont Road near Emory University. It will hold its first informational briefing for families of prospective students on Sunday, April 24 at 3 pm at Atlanta Tech Village, 3423 Piedmont Road, NE Atlanta, 30305.
21st Century STEM will provide a personalized education delivery model for each child, using leading-edge technology and extensive STEM resources such as a flight simulator and virtual reality experiences.
βWe believe our personalized learning approach will be very appealing to many parents of students seeking a challenging educational environment,β said Gareth N. Genner, co-founder of 21st Century STEM and former president of a blue ribbon, k-12 college prep school. βEvery student deserves a great teacher who has the freedom and resources to optimize their educational experience to meet the individual needs of that student. We will provide students a successful path to the fastest-growing and highest paying occupations.β

21st Century will use an academic model based on the research of Prof. Benjamin Bloom that found that a combination of personal tutoring, combined with mastery learning, enabled students to outperform other students by two standard deviations. Prof Bloom called these results the βtwo- sigma problemβ because society cannot afford a personal tutor for every child.
However, Genner believes the 21st Century school model, which leverages passionate, highly-effective teachers with a proprietary curriculum, one-to-one technology and project-based learning, solves the problem, offering pupils an affordable, personalized education in which each can progress at his or her own pace.

βMany parents in metro Atlanta are looking for affordable options that give students high-quality science, technology, engineering and math training,β said Mike Davis, executive director of the new school. βWe believe the hands on focus on STEM will help students develop critical thinking skills to be successful in college and the work place.β
Genner said the school will be one of the first in the nation outside of California to adopt an acclaimed K-14 program developed by the University of California at Davis that integrates math, computer science, robotics, videography and other art & STEM subjects.
21st Century will offer students up to 200 school days, running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, activities and pre and after-school care will be available so parents can have their child at the school location from 7:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuition is $8,400.
While the school facility, located at 1549 Clairmont Road, Decatur, 30033, will not be ready until June 1, the school is currently accepting applications for enrollment.
