Don’t miss this fabulous opportunity to learn more about Yinka Adeyemi and his batik, relief printing, and bead painting. One of the original artists of the distinguished Osogbo art movement of the Yoruba of western Nigeria, Yinka was a student of Susanne Wenger (whose work will be on exhibit at the Carolos Museum beginning January 23rd) and S.I. Wangboje. For the past several decades, he has been one of Nigeria’s leading contemporary artists, and he currently serves as an ambassador for Yoruba culture.

Yinka’s expertise includes batik on cloth and rice paper, bead mosaic art paintings, tapestry, and mono and lino printing, and his work creates stories that record past and present folklore, customs, and beliefs of his homeland. Currently a resident of Oakland, he teaches batik and print making workshops and has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Africa, Europe, and the US – most recently Osogbo Art & Heritage: The Osogbo School’s Influence on Modern Art at the Southwest Arts Center in Atlanta.
