Atlanta Attorney to Challenge in Brookhaven's House District 80

Atlanta attorney Meagan Hanson has announced she is running for state House District 80.

The seat was won earlier this year by Democrat Taylor Bennett in a special election to replace Mike Jacobs, who was named a DeKalb County State Court judge.

Hanson, an attorney with Boyd Collar Nolen & Tuggle, was a member of BrookhavenYES and was named 2015 Woman of the Year by the Georgia Young Republicans.

District 80, which includes portions of Brookhaven, Chamblee and Sandy Springs, was one of the most closely watched special elections of the summer. Several high-profile Republicans were in the race, including former Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis and Catherine Bernard. However, Bennett was able to secure the endorsements of several notable Democrats himself, including former state senator and gubernatorial hopeful Jason Carter.

Bennett’s victory enabled Democrats to block Republicans from attaining a super-majority in the state House.
