Brookhaven Cop Fights for a Cause
Officer Tommy Lefever will participate in a boxing tournament later this month to raise money for Brookhaven Police Explorers.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- A Brookhaven police officer will be taking off his badge and putting on the gloves later this month to raise money for a law enforcement youth program.
Dubbed by Brookhaven Patch as the “Brookhaven Brawler,” Officer Tommy Lefever will be fighting in the Brawl for a Cause in Athens, on Feb. 27. The event is designed to raise money for various nonprofits and charities, and Lefever’s raisings will be given to Brookhaven Police Explorers, a program allowing youths from 14 to 21 to learn about law enforcement careers.
Lefever, originally from South River, NJ, has been a police officer for five years, first with the city of Atlanta and now with Brookhaven.

“My father was a cop for 26 years,” Lefever said. “I was very fortunate to know at a young age what I wanted to do with my life and to have a goal to work long and hard for. In a day and age where police officers seem to be misunderstood across swaths of our population, I have a special respect for young people that still want to wear the badge for the right reasons.
“Our Police Explorers work hard and deserve a lot of credit for taking up interest in a life of public service. They are a value to their community and they give me reason to be optimistic about the future of the law enforcement profession in our country. Win or lose, I’ll gladly take a black eye to support each every one of them.”
