Last yearβs inaugural community event drew more than 400 registrants and this year may exceed that number. The festivities begin on Friday, October 23 with a new community social, Duck Duck Food Truck, featuring live music by the community resident Trey Boyer Band. Food trucks and Sweetwater Brewing Company (event sponsor) will gather in the West Nancy Creek and Candler Lake West parking lot. This will be the first food truck event hosted in Murphey Candler Park. The MCPC encourages the Brookhaven and surrounding communities to enjoy the park and βEat, Drink & Grooveβ by the lake.
The following morning the race begins at 9:00am. Registration is available at active.com or murpheycandlerpark.org. Cost is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1 mile Fun Run. All Duck Duck Goose 5K proceeds benefit the Murphey Candler Park Conservancy and their efforts to support the park.
The MCPC is an all volunteer, non-profit MCP stakeholder, community voice and project fund source. In 2015 MCPC established top five organizational priorities: build a model playground, restore the historic caretakerβs house to community multi-use structure, dredge the lake to maintain aquatic health, establish park architectural and design standards & remove invasive and exotic vegetation.
