Brookhaven Innovation Academy Set To Begin Next Week

Still looking for a permanent home, the new school is temporarily located in Norcross.

NORCROSS, GA — The new Brookhaven Innovation Academy (BIA) is set to open on Tuesday, August 2, at its temporary home in Norcross.

BIA is a state-authorized, state-funded, public charter school with 420 students in grades K-6, growing one grade per year until it reaches full enrollment of 540 students in grades K-8.

BIA plans to eventually grow to a K-12 model. The school will offer students a research-based, college preparatory curriculum with a focus on science, technology, engineering and math.

BIA will temporarily be located at 3159 Campus Drive. The Norcross site is a temporary location and the school has a year-to year-lease.

  • School will begin at 8:00 am and end at 3:15 pm.
  • Officials say there will be an after-school program, though no details have been published.
  • Students can arrive as early as 7:30 am. Supervision will be provided for students in the gym/cafeteria.
  • All class sizes for kindergarten through eighth grade will be 20 students with one teacher.
  • There will be three classes in each grade.
  • There will be one teacher aide who will float among the kindergarten classes.
  • The school has a large multi-purpose room that will serve as a gym and eating area.
  • An existing outdoor play space will supplement with additional space on the blacktop for activities such as four square and basketball.
  • Transportation will not be provided by BIA.
