Brookhaven Police Launch Hispanic Citizen's Police Academy
The class kicks off on May 19 and will run for 10 weeks.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- The Brookhaven Police Department has announced its Inaugural Hispanic Citizen's Police Academy.
This class is open to adults age 21 and over and runs one night per week for 10 weeks (May 19-July 21, 2016).
The BPD Citizen's Police Academy is designed to give residents an overview of how their Police Department works. It will provide students insight into the basics of police work, the logistics of the police department, as well as crime prevention programs.

This program is not designed to make police officers out of students but will create a growing number of responsible, well-informed citizens with the potential to influence others about the Police Department's methods and goals.
"This is a great opportunity to enhance the relationship between our police department and the Spanish-speaking citizens of Brookhaven," Interim Chief of Police Juan Grullon said.

All areas of department operations will be covered. Topics include:
- Criminal Justice System
- Constitutional Law
- Patrol Division

- Traffic Enforcement
- Accident Investigation

- Identity Theft/Fraud
The class will meet every Thursday night from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The first meeting will be held at the Brookhaven Police Department, 2665 Buford Highway. The program will start on May 19 and will continue until July 21.
Everyone who lives or works in Brookhaven is invited to attend. The class is open for all those over 21 years of age and it is free of charge. A criminal background check is required for all applicants and the Police Department reserves the right to deny enrollment to those with a criminal history.
