Brookhaven Police Raise Awareness for Veteran Suicide Prevention

22 pushups in 22 days. That's what the department is doing, and they're challenging others to do the same.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Can you do 22 pushups in 22 days?

Members of the Brookhaven Police Department can (actually, Patch thinks they can do a lot more, but don't want to show off). The department is participating in a social media movement designed to bring awareness to the issue of suicide among the nation's veterans, entitled 22Kill.

"Our community and even part of our police department is made up of veterans," the department said on its Facebook page. "It’s been documented that every day, approximately 22 veterans commit suicide. Any positive number in this statistic is just too much."

Brookhaven police are also challenging other local departments, including Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Chamblee, to join in the fight.

The challenge is to complete 22 pushups a day for 22 days. For more information go to www.22kill.com.
