It’s been a long time since a Chamblee Boys tennis team has advanced to the second round of the state tournament. This season’s reliable winner, Devaughn Bennett in 1st Singles, pulled out a 6-0, 6-1 win for the boys. Logan Simpson and Nick Chen won first doubles, and Brandon Chen and Seungmin Lee pulled out the game-winning match at second doubles.
On Friday, April 26th both Girls and Boys Tennis teams lost the second round of the 4-AAAA State championship, leaving Chamblee in the top 16 in the state this year. The Girls played LaGrange, in Lagrange, GA and the Boys played Carrollton, in Carrollton, GA. Despite the loss, Coach Smith was very pleased with Chamblee’s season: “Both teams had the same two team goals- finish second in the region and advance to the second round of the state tournament,” said Smith. “Cass boys and girls teams were very gritty kids. I believe our doubles teams were able to handle the pressure and win because we played so many tough non-region opponents this year.”
