DeKalb Medical Has New VP of Medical Affairs
Dr. Raoul Mayer is the facility's new vice president of medical affairs.

Dr. Raoul Mayer, M.D., has joined the DeKalb Medical executive team as vice president of medical affairs, effective immediately.
In his new role, Mayer will be involved in the Medical Staff Executive Committee, Professional Practice Evaluation Committee, Health and Conduct and Credentials.
“I’m happy to announce that Dr. Mayer has agreed to join the executive team,” said John Shelton, DeKalb Medical President and CEO in a news release. “Dr. Mayer is a proven leader and this mix of responsibilities will allow his expertise to touch multiple functions of DeKalb Medical.”

Mayer will also have administrative responsibilities for the podiatry residency program. He takes over for Dr. Reg Gilbreath, M.D., who resigned in late June.
“I feel honored by the trust given to me by the leadership of DeKalb Medical and look forward to facilitating relations between the administration and medical staff, and to promoting our healthcare system in the community,” Mayer said.

Mayer has been on staff at DeKalb Medical Center for over 17 years and is a graduate of Columbia College and Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed his General Surgery training at Mount Sinai Hospital and Colon and Rectal fellowship at the University of Minnesota. In 1977, he joined Atlanta Colon and Rectal Surgery, one of the largest single sub-specialty colon and rectal groups in the Southeast.
Additionally, Mayer has served as Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Physician Advisory Committee and has been involved with many hospital leadership committees.
Mayer’s wife, Agnes Han, M.D., is a gastroenterologist and his son, Andrew, is a high school student at Woodward Academy.
