DeKalb School Board Extends Superintendent's Contract
Dr. Stephen Green is getting a raise and will earn more than $300,000 a year.

DECATUR, GA — The DeKalb Board of Education has extended the contract of superintendent Dr. Stephen Green and also given him a 1 percent raise.
Green's salary through 2018-19 is $303,000, according to a statement from the board.
“The board took this action to recognize Dr. Green’s sustained, consistent leadership in collaboration with the board and with students, staff, parents/caregivers, and citizens of DeKalb County," said board chairman Dr. Melvin Johnson.

“Together with the board, Dr. Green has restored trust in the DeKalb school district," said Johnson. "This was clearly demonstrated by overwhelming voter approval (71 percent yes) of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or E-SPLOST, in May, which is expected to generate more than $500 million in funding for capital improvements."

- Extends term of contract to June 30, 2019
- Provides for a one-time 1% increase in base salary to $303,000/year for the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 school years
- Removes obligation to meet and agree upon any incentive bonus; instead, board will consider it each year in good faith only.
- Adds supplemental retirement benefit for the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 school years equal to 4% of base salary for the 2015-2016 school year, with vesting and potential forfeiture provisions
- Increases retention bonus by $2,500.00 for each successful year of service (it was formerly $15K/year; it is now $17.5K for 2017, $22K for 2018, and $22.5K for 2019)
