Jester, Rader: Save the Brookhaven Library

The DeKalb County Commission is set to take up the issue on Tuesday morning, and two local commissioners are urging residents to attend.

Funding for Brookhaven’s new library is in danger of being cut, according to two local commissioners who are urging the public to attend Tuesday’s DeKalb commission meeting.

Commissioners Nancy Jester and Jeff Rader published a video on Monday, saying that commissioners Mereda Davis Johnson and Sharon Barnes Sutton are recommending that the new library not be funded, despite a bond referendum passed back in 2006.

But now, funds for a new Brookhaven Library that is currently located on North Druid Hills Rd., could be in jeopardy of being stripped away from the General Obligation Bond program that had formerly allocated some $4.6 million for the library.

The library hasn’t been constructed because of confusion over where it would be located, according to the Brookhaven Post. City officials want the new library to be located in Brookhaven park, but that park isn’t owned by the city.
