Two firefighters were injured and two residents suffered smoke inhalation during an apartment fire Wednesday on Buford Highway

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- A major apartment fire Wednesday afternoon shut down both sides of Buford Highway. DeKalb firefighters were called to the Esquire Apartments in the 3100 block of Buford Highway around 1:30 pm. A DeKalb fire official told Brookhaven police the smoke was so heavy that a portion of the road between Corporate Boulevard and North Cliff Valley Way was closed in both directions to avoid any accidents and ensure the safety of firefighters.
DeKalb fire officials also said two residents were treated for smoke inhalation and two firefighters suffered minor injuries. More than 40 people were displaced from the fire.
