Marist Coach Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Daniel Dutton is out on bond after police reportedly found evidence in his Brookhaven home.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Daniel Dutton, a volunteer girls varsity coach at Marist School, was arrested last week on child pornography charges.

Dutton, 44, is out on bond, after police obtained a warrant to search his home and electronic devices.

“We were saddened to learn of the arrest of Mr. Daniel Dutton," said Fr. John Harhager, Marist School president, in a statement issued to Patch on Tuesday morning. "Mr. Dutton is not an employee of Marist School, but has been a part-time, contracted community assistant coach for the varsity girls’ basketball team for the past several years.

"We do not have any evidence or reason to suspect that any Marist students have been affected in any way by this situation, but as we are unwilling to put any of our students at risk, we terminated Mr. Dutton immediately. Other than the arrest, we do not have any information relating to the charges made against him.

"As a school, our primary concern, of course, is for our students and families. All our community coaches undergo background checks, and we will continue this practice. Situations such as these can be upsetting for parents and children alike so we have made all the resources of our counseling department available to the girls who were on these teams.”
