Marist Edges Westminster in Close Encounter
Early goal settles contest as No. 4 Marist picks up seventh-straight win
An early Stephanie Krouskos goal was enough for host (No. 4, AAAA) to edge Westminster (No. 3, AA), 1-0, in a back-and-forth between state-ranked schools.
Both teams had several chances, but the visitors failed to convert their second-half possessional advantage as Marist picked up its seventh-straight win.
Despite being run close, Marist coach Sergio Stadler was pleased to pick up the victory.

"As a coach, you're always wanting your players to play at a different level, and we didn't," he said. "Obviously there's work to be done, but we will do it. It's a good win."
The crucial goal came in the 10th minute, with Mary Beth Bleekrode providing the assist. Her defense-splitting pass was picked up in the penalty area by Krouskos, who had time to chose her spot in the bottom corner.

Bleekrode then fired a free kick against the post minutes later, but Westminster soon began to control proceedings.
Virginia Hamilton was close to an equalizer in the 31st minute, sending a close-range header inches wide after connecting with a free kick.
In total, the visitors outshot Marist 12 to 11 and earned more corner kicks -- five to three.
"We were a little bit slow moving the ball," said Marist coach Sergio Stadler. "I think when we move it fast we create a little bit more space and good opportunities.
Westminster's Caroline Beadles and Katie Shivanandan both had efforts saved in the second half, in which Marist was in the rare position of being on the back foot.
However, the Lady War Eagles finished strong, with Bleekrode nearly wrapping up the win with a saved shot following a quick counter-attack.
