Mom Charged With Murder in Death of Baby Seeks Release From Jail: Report

The infant suffered a traumatic brain injury, say police.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A DeKalb County woman charged with murder in the death of her 8-month-old baby will ask a judge on Friday to be released on bond from jail, according to a media repor

Shavone Whitehead and her boyfriend, Edward Wilson, have been accused of murder in the death of her daughter, Kamonie, who died two weeks after she stopped breathing on Aug. 1 at the Microtel Inn in Brookhaven, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Police and emergency personnel were called to the hotel and took the baby to a local hospital.

In a hearing in September, a Brookhaven police detective testified that Kamonie died of a traumatic brain injury, related to “shaken baby syndrome,” the Journal-Constitution reported.

But Kamonie had shown signs of physical abuse that occurred prior to Aug. 1, including extensive bruising and damaged ribs, AJC.com reported.

Whitehead, who's from DeKalb County, is scheduled to appear Friday before Superior Court Judge Asha Jackson to seek bond, AJC.com reported.
