New DeKalb Animal Shelter Holds Groundbreaking

The ceremony was held Wednesday morning in Chamblee.

CHAMBLEE, GA – A groundbreaking ceremony for a new DeKalb County animal shelter was held Wednesday morning in Chamblee.

DeKalb CEO Lee May was joined by county and Chamblee city officials, reports the Brookhaven Post.

Plans call for the new space, located on 5.3 acres next to Peachtree DeKalb Airport, to house 280 large dogs, 40 puppies or small dogs and 112 cats.

Reeves & Young Construction, based in Suwanee, was given the $8.6 million contract by the DeKalb commission.
