New Poll Shows Handel Leading McBath In Metro ATL 6th District
Just over a year ago, it became the nation's most expensive congressional election in history. Now, Handel is leading in her reelection bid.

ATLANTA -- A bipartisan joint poll conducted last week shows U.S. Rep. Karen Handel leading in her reelection bid against Democrat Lucy McBath. The poll was conducted by Bold Blue Campaigns, a Democratic polling company, and JMC Analytics and Polling, a Republican polling firm, and shows Handel leading McBath by a 49-percent to 45-percent margin, with 6 percent undecided. The poll was based upon 500 likely voters with a 4.5% margin of error.
Handel won the open seat last year in a special election against Democrat Jon Ossoff, a race that gained national attention and also become the nation's most expensive congressional election in history.
Several weeks ago, former President Barack Obama endorsed McBath, as Democrats are pinning their midterm hopes on what they perceive as a "blue wave" that will help them take control of the U.S. House.

After crushing defeats in 2016, Democrats opened the fall campaign brimming with confidence about their prospects for retaking the House, which would give them power to open a wide swath of investigations into Trump or even launch impeachment proceedings. The outcome of the election, which features a record number of Democratic female and minority candidates, will also help shape the party's direction heading into the 2020 presidential race.
Republicans have spent the primary season anxiously watching suburban voters, particularly women, peel away because of their disdain for Trump.
