No Conflict of Interest Between Mattison and Brookhaven Innovation Academy
A legal ruling absolves the Brookhaven city councilman of any wrongdoing.

A legal opinion requested by Mayor Rebecca Chase Williams says its OK for city councilman Bates Mattison to remain as head of the Brookhaven Innovation Academy (BIA).
The opinion, issued on Nov. 25 from Marietta attorney R. Randall Bentley Sr., says Mattison should be allowed to keep his BIA job so long as he recuses himself from any BIA-related city government discussions, according to Reporter Newspapers.
Mattison, as reported by the Brookhaven Post, was hired back in October to serve as the school’s executive director until September 2016. The District 3 councilman played a leading role in creating the BIA as a State Funded Charter School.
