Oglethorpe Alumna Receives Young Alumni Award

Teal Sherer, who graduated from Oglethorpe University and lives in Atlanta, has received the school's Young Alumni Award for her work after graduation.

Teal Sherer, a 2003 graduate of who lives in Atlanta, won her alma mater's Young Alumni Award at the 2012 Alumni Weekend for her good work after graduation, according to a press release from the university.

The Young Alumni Award is for a graduate from the last 10 years who has shown leadership and inspired other young alumni through participation in career, public service, volunteer or continuing education activities.

Sherer is an actor and producer who discovered her love for performance while at Oglethorpe. In school, she was in theater productions like Antigone and The House of Bernarda Alba. She was also part of Full Radius Dance Company, which has dancers both with and without disabilities performing together. After she graduated, she was in Warm Springs, an HBO Emmy-winning production about Franklin D. Roosevelt starring Kenneth Branagh, Cynthia Nixon and Kathy Bates.

She has performed alongside Dustin Hoffman and Annette Bening in American Voices at The Broad Stage, produced and starred in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof, played Venom in Felicia Day's hit web series The Guild and starred in a popular Liberty Mutual voting commercial. Currently, she is producing a web series she created and stars in called My Gimpy Life, which premiered in June.

She also teaches dance and drama classes to kids with disabilities, is passionate about including performers with disabilities in the entertainment industry and is part of the Screen Actors Guild Performers with Disabilities Committee.
