Police Investigate Fatal Crash That Killed 2 in Brookhaven
Honda Civic struck a tree early Sunday near the intersection of Clairmont Road and Century Center.
BROOKHAVEN, GA -- State law enforcement authorities on Monday are still investigating a crash that killed two people and injured three others on a wet roadway this weekend in Brookhaven.
Investigator are looking at speed and alcohol as contributing factors in the fatal crash, which happened about 3:50 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Clairmont Road and Century Center.
Police said the 2015 Honda Civic carrying five people lost control and struck a tree about 3:50 a.m. Sunday.

As Patch previously reported, the intersection has reopened. The Georgia State Patrol is conducting a follow-up investigation and charges are pending, according to Brookhaven police.
"After striking the tree, the vehicle rotated and came to an uncontrolled final rest off the south roadway edge facing west [on Clairmont Road]," Brookhaven police said in a news release.

Some of the car's occupants did not have on seat belts, police said.
"The front left and rear left passengers were unrestrained. The front right passenger was restrained. The right rear and middle rear passengers were restrained using the same seatbelt stretched across both occupants," police said.
According to a report in 11-Alive, one person died at the scene of the crash and another died while being taken to the hospital.
