Savannah Assistant PC Recommended To Become Chamblee's Top Cop

Savannah Assistant Police Chief Kerry Thomas has been recommended to take over Chamblee's department.

CHAMBLEE, GA -- Chamblee City Manager Jon Walker has recommended Chief Kerry Thomas, assistant chief of police at the Savannah Police Department, for appointment as the city’s new police chief. With more than 30 years of experience on Savannah’s Police Department, Thomas’ experience includes working patrol, being a certified forensic technician and latent examiner, criminal investigator, patrol sergeant, lieutenant, captain, major and assistant chief.

“We received 48 applications for the position of chief of police. Applications were received from 13 states, but the majority of candidates hailed from Georgia,” says Walker. “Based on resumes, references and interviews, I recommend Chief Thomas for appointment as the next chief of police for Chamblee. City staff also were impressed by Chief Thomas’ experience and attitude. He projected a calm demeanor, expressed a great depth of knowledge and offered a methodical and results oriented approach to policing.”

Thomas served as the assistant chief of field operations for the Savannah Police Department since 2017. There, he reduced crime and established sound legal policy and procedures. He joined the Savannah Police Department in 1988 after previously serving three years in the United States Army.
